We believe that books can shape more than ideas.
We think they can change lives and neighborhoods.
The Parish Collective Book Club is a space for people who want to be
the Church in the neighborhood.
It’s where you can gather to read, reflect, and connect with others who are wrestling with
questions about faith, presence, and real life in the neighborhood.
Each month you’ll:
Engage a book that sparks imagination and embodied faith
Connect with others on a come-as-you-are facilitated Zoom conversation
Receive reflections and simple practices to try in your actual neighborhood
Chat with the author live at the end of the month
Come gather around a good book, good questions, and good people who share a longing to live differently.

Enough for Today
by Donna Barber
Starting March 5, 2026
Thursday at 12:00pm PST / 3:00pm EST
Hosted by: Parish Collective Staff

Enough for Today is a spiritually centered devotional that offers forty reflections to help readers navigate life’s “wilderness seasons”. Times of uncertainty, exhaustion, unanswered questions, or spiritual weariness. Drawing on the biblical image of manna in the wilderness, Donna Barber invites us to notice how God provides in surprising and sustaining ways even when our energy is low and the path ahead feels unclear.
With rich, thoughtful imagery and grounded in faith, this book encourages readers to acknowledge fears, rediscover hope, and reconnect with what is true and life‑giving. Whether you’re a long‑time believer, someone seeking spiritual refreshment, or simply feeling worn down by life’s challenges, these reflections offer daily sustenance for the journey ahead.

We chose Enough for Today because it meets us where we are. Many of us face fatigue, transitions, or questions of faith, and Barber’s reflections offer small, nourishing insights to help us stay grounded and hopeful. This book encourages conversation, vulnerability, and spiritual growth, making it perfect for a community that values honest dialogue and support. Whether you’re feeling worn down or seeking deeper spiritual connection, these reflections provide strength for each day.

The Connected Community
Discovering the Health, Wealth, and Power of Neighborhoods
-
The Connected Community: Discovering the Health, Wealth, and Power of Neighborhoods invites readers to recognize the hidden talents, skills, and strengths in their own neighborhoods. It shows how bringing these assets together can create healthier, more vibrant, and more resilient communities.
Cormac Russell and John McKnight draw on years of experience with asset‑based community development to demonstrate how neighborly connection can help address challenges such as social isolation, economic inequality, and environmental concerns. Through real stories and examples from communities around the world, this book encourages practical action, shared discovery, and the building of deeper relationships among neighbors.

Details will be shared soon!
-
We chose The Connected Community because it offers a hopeful and practical framework for thinking about community in ways that are both grounded and transformational. Instead of focusing on problems from the outside, it encourages discovering what’s already strong within a neighborhood and building from there. This approach fits beautifully with our book club’s interest in meaningful, actionable conversations about how people connect, care for each other, and create wellbeing together. It’s a conversation starter, a call to practical compassion, and a reminder that strong communities are built one relationship at a time.
Check back soon! We’ll be adding more books to the 2026 Book Club schedule!
